Last weekend, members of the waggons team and the White Rose Group combined forces to reinstate the next part of the tracks in the Top Yard at Boston Lodge. The result is a great achievement and has already been put to use wheeling the next waggon upside down on the bomb trolley into the blacksmiths for work to commence on it. There is more to do so if you want to be part of recreating history please get in touch to volunteer or go to the Heritage Group website to donate to one of our fantastic projects. ... With the longer nights of winter approaching, or the extreme heat of summer (depending on your location), we have put two new items in the Collections area of the FfWHResource (iBase) for you to browse and research at your leisure beside the fire, or besides the air-conditioning. The first (XD97/6126b) is Charles Spooner's first letter copybook of January to April 1857. These letters have not been transcribed before so please feel free to have a go! They seem to cover things like problems with finding the right materials to construct the first iron slate waggons, through to preparing for new buildings in the Boston Lodge area. The second (XD97/899) is a compendium of the AGM and SGM reports and accounts from 1844 to 1869 with fascinating insights into how the railway moved from minor horse drawn tramway to important steam hauled narrow gauge railway. This second item is in typewritten form and so will not challenge your eyesight, unlike Charles Spooner's handwriting!Of immediate interest is that from 1844 to 1852 the AGM minutes used the term "Ffestiniog Railway" at the top, before reverting to the anglicised legal name of "Festiniog Railway Company" in 1853. Membership of the Festiniog Railway Heritage Group or WHR Heritage Group will give you unlimited high resolution access to this excellent resource. ... See MoreSee Less
