[edit]Background
Similar to carriages 2040, 2041 and 2042 construction work on this vehicle started at Boston Lodge on 18th September 2006, joining carriage 2043 and followed shortly after by 2045.
Steelwork for 2044 arrived at Boston Lodge at end of June 2006. It will be of the longer 13m length used for Pullman coach Bodysgallen 2115. 2044 will contain 33 standard 3rd class seats, plus 2 seats which can fold away for wheelchairs. The extra length will be used to provide double doors (as per 2090) at one end only to provide easy access for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Construction started on 18/09/06 and 3 weeks later the underframe was noted as being at an advanced stage.
