The replica Ashbury under constructionThere are two current projects supported by the Heritage Group. The most advanced is a replica of a 4-wheeled Ashbury carriage although the Group are not directly involved with this. None of the originals survived into the preservation era and the last were used as station buildings on the Welsh Highland Railway. The replica has been financed from funds left over from the building of the single Fairlie, Taliesin.

An original Mark 2 quarrymen's carriageAnother interesting vehicle is a replica of one of the earlier Quarrymen's carriages. These were taken out of service about 1890. One survived after to conversion to a hearse van and another slightly different version became at PW lineside hut. This has been preserved but will not be restored to use. The building of a replica has been on the point of starting construction for several years. Some free timber was acquired and has been cut to size but this is not nearly enough. Almost all the metal parts have been found and an application has been made for a grant to provide the rest of the timber etc.

These and future projects would benefit from extra help. At the moment we have no fixed working party dates and these are usually arranged at short notice. We could probably arrange one to fit around your availability. If you can help with any of these please email chairman@frheritage.org.uk.
